In this blog post, I am going to post an analysis of a film opening that matches my chosen genre, which is drama. I am going to be analysing "Titanic"
Towards the end, its interesting that the melodious music starts playing as soon as we see the wrecked ballroom because this is where all the dancing, celebrating and joyful music usually plays. So, the sound motif of the echoic music is asynchronous as we would only usually hear bubbles underwater. Again, this is taking us to the past simply by the melodic, non-diegetic voice that is heard. This creates a sorrowful atmosphere which is quite moving for the viewers.
The overall soundscape is well-made and remains solid throughout the opening scene. Starting and ending with the same symphonic melody, it lures the audience in the film as well as capturing their emotional reactions towards the scenes. Even though there is not much diegetic music and Foley sounds, it does create a realistic setting which is what drama films are all about.
