Task 15 - Importance of Sound

Importance of sound



Soundscape Terminology:


  • Ambient Sound - The background sounds which are present in a scene or location

  • Diegetic Sound - Sound which is visible on the screen or in a film to audience

  • Non-Diegetic sound - Sounds which characters can hear 

  • Score - Music composed for it

  • Song - A short poem or other set of words set to music or meant to be sung

  • Voiceover - A piece of narration in a film or broadcast, not accompanied by an image of the speaker

  • Dialogue - Usually a conversation or phrases that are said

  • Foley - Sound effects after the shooting of a film

  • Synchronous - In sync with an object

  • Asynchronous - Deliberately not in sync with an object 

  • Sound Bridge - Transition connections between sounds or music

  • Sound Motif - Recurring piece of music
