Task 5 - What makes a good title sequence?

What makes a good title sequence according to Kyle Cooper?

Kyle Cooper

Kyle cooper is a very talented man who makes many successful well-known title sequences; some of his most popular ones are Superman and Spiderman, which had a huge impact on people. He believes that making a good title sequence for a film insists of having a good build up into the film so that the audience are so interested and wouldn't want to be anywhere other than watching the film. He believes that in order for a title sequence to be successful it has to dub-tale seamlessly into the film, has to set an expectation and get the audience excited.

He also likes the film Dead zone for many reasons. One being because of the simple typography – he believes it was effective, and the music had set the tone of being mysterious. As well as this, he liked the film To Kill a Mocking Bird because he said it was beautifully photographed, everything had fit in well with the background -  it had all integrated well.

Kyle Cooper used the phrase “story based” which means the backstory, such as a little insight of the film. He also stated that test screening had problems, such as not being able to cover the expense of any other shots/scenes. The two and a half minutes of a title sequence are important to a studio because they allow left out information to be added, can become a prologue and possibly another scene of the movie. For example, the title sequence for Dawn of the dead tried to set up the film story line to end up with something that can be carried on-advances.Overall Kyle cooper believes title sequences in a film are important as they contribute towards a prologue, and the animations/graphics/motions etc. can tell a story.

Kyle Cooper made the title sequence for the film 'Seven' which he thinks was successful, mainly because of the font. He thinks that the importancy of it tries to make the typography link to the story - giving the audience a hint/idea. Also, making the type do what it says, for example because the film is about serial killer, the font is gloomy, dark and bold.
