8. The Title Sequence of my Favourite Film

THE TITLE SEQUENCE TO MY FAVOURITE FILM

Skyfall

I chose to analyse the title sequence of the film "Skyfall" because it grabbed my interest from the first moment I watched it and the dramatic music as well as the moving images are mesmeric and compelling.

The music is about the film title itself which makes it more dramatic as well as organised. It sounds hypnotic which makes it easy to hook the audience in.

The opening starts with a man drowning and as he drowns, a giant hand drags him down even more. This seems bizarre and unexpected and that's what rises the audience's curiosity to watch it even more to find out just what is happening to that man.

Man drowning.
As the opening continues, it shows that the man is dragged down through a hole in the sand underwater and as this moment, the music gets louder which creates suspense and makes it interesting. It nearly looks like the sand is pursuing and engulfing him. Along with this moment, the film title comes up which implies that the film is about him being dragged down by something; it could be himself, a woman. We can't pick up much from the opening which makes it mysterious and flirtatious.

Sand engulfing the man

Soon after, it shows men floating around water with blood swishing out of their hearts which could suggest that there is a lot of violence and murder in the film. This could give the audience the idea that perhaps the main character is the man drowning who is dragging himself down by bringing down other people(killing). The titles appear as these moving images are shown and this allows the audience to figure out the storyline as well as read the titles and know about the film roots.

Men with blood

Along comes a shot of a lady underwater who seems quite evil and authoritative and this could give the audience the idea that maybe this lady dragged the drowning man down. However, on the other hand, it could be possible that there is some romance in the film and she is glad he is being drowned due to his violence. The title that comes up with her shot could be her name.

Woman with the evil, seductive look
as the title sequence carries on, it shows knives being stabbed on the ground and somehow blends into funeral stones. This is effective because it plays with the audience's mind a little bit but at the same time, makes it clear for them to see that the violence had lead to those deaths.

Funerals and weapons

The biggest clue of the film is shown when it shows the man shooting his shadows with his gun. This could imply that the main character is a criminal who is murderous and by killing, he is losing himself in the process and ruining himself along with killing other people without realising it. The film could be possible about remorse and guilt. Here is the opening scene you can watch to be clear of what I am trying to explain.
