Divergent Film Cover |
After analysing the title sequence for the film
Divergent, I can conclude that it uses 3 types of different titles.
1. Titles on blank images
2. Titles with moving images
3. Titles with motion
I think this is effective because it allows the audience have an insight of what’s going on at the scene, at the same time not giving away too much. Referring to Thomas Suffclife – “films need to seduce their audience into long-term commitment. While there are many types of seduction, the temptation to go for an instant arousal is most irresistible.” This means, it must immediately capture it’s audiences’ attention and leaving them wanting more out of the film, which I believe Divergent’s title sequence does so. Looking at the video of the title sequence and the font movements, they tend to slide in and out of the view which can be more capturing for the audience. Also, when the title ‘DIVERGENT’ is introduced, there’s a flash that appears, again gaining more attention to it adding to the fact that it’s on a bright screen and the font is bright. The moving images that are behind the titles allow the genre to be set. At the start, there's a background with just a field – giving it a sense of freedom. The titles with motion allow the film to become more intriguing and we see the actual location, the costumes and etc.
