Task 21 - Practical remake activity (evaluation)

Evaluation

The purpose of this remake was to learn how to plan, short-list and storyboard a title sequence. We had to learn to film using a range of shot types that are conventional to our chosen genre. We now clearly know how to use premier pro and have learnt how to use after effects to create titles.

When making the storyboard it was quite difficult to draw each shot as they were very short and not something you would pay much attention to when you normally watch a movie. Moreover, we had to keep in mind the different angles which we would have to film at and the shot distances. However, once we paid attention we could easily note down what happened in each shot and remake it. Yet, due to the fact that we only had one lesson to film and didn't have the exact same location or costume our version of Gone Girl did not appear exactly the same, there was some minor differences.  In other circumstances we would have changed the clothing and found a location that best suited what we needed.

When making our titles we had decided to use a black background at the beginning and then began to add the titles on the images, as that was what we saw in the original version. We decided to use a white font and simple font face to keep the titles as straightforward and plain as possible. We kept the writing the same size for all the titles except the ones on a black background as they were meant to be bigger and more obvious. Our choice of font was successful as the colours do not clash with the background and they can be read clearly. The titles were placed in the exact same places as seen on the original opening scene as we wanted to make sure that the title sequence was as similar as possible.

If I was to complete this task again I would spend more time on planning so that when I begin filming I won’t be confused. I would organise my work and make sure that everyone in my team contributes to the work and knows their specific tasks.
