28: Previous Student's Title Sequence Analysis

ANALYSIS OF PREVIOUS STUDENTS' TITLE SEQUENCES

The first title sequence that I'm going to analyse is called "Vengeance":

The title sequence starts from a young woman typing and only the ambient sound of her typing can be heard. However, when she sees a picture of a man and realises something, a sound turns on with almost sounds like an alarm going off and it gets faster and louder as a man opens the door with a gun in his hand and then it becomes quiet. Then we hear another ambient sound of the door closing and the lady typing hears and gets frightened. While she is frightened and is panicking, quickly putting the things in the draw, another sound effect that sounds rough and intense. The volume gets louder as the man attaches a silencer to the gun. After the man is upstairs, the woman watches him quietly while there is another sound effect which makes it seem like that she will get caught any time. The sound effects increases and decreases volume and speed along with the character's movement. The man goes downstairs and points the gun when the woman appears and pushes him and his gun. We hear this and the man coughing. And then we hear the woman smashing a glass bottle on his head.

The second title sequence that I'm going to analyse is "Unhinged".

The title sequence uses diegetic sounds as well as non diegetic sounds. We can hear birds chirping and also the wind while it brushed along the trees shown in the video. 18 seconds in and it changes it's sound to a sound of places with more grass and bushes. The soundcape can be heard of birds, bugs, wind etc. 28 seconds in and the sound quietens down and lighter sound of wind can be heard. And then again, the previous sound of birds and grass comes on again and finally we hear someone saying 'Oh God, help me' and keeps asking for help and groans in pain. He continues to grown until a woman screams "Oh my god" and then straight away, a sound of gunshot.

My favourite and least favourite:

My favourite video is the first one because it uses different types of sound effects along with ambient sounds which makes it seem realistic. The genre was also quite clear due to the conventions of guns and technology.
However, I did not like the second video because there weren't any additional sound effects which means less editing of sound was used. Also, the sound didn't transition very well between shots and seemed messy.
